Therapeutic Music Packages for the Children’s Heartbeat Trust

Anne Walsh (CEO) and Julie Allen (Music Therapy Manager) was delighted yesterday to hand over the first of our new Therapeutic Music Packages to Karena Smith from the Children’s Heartbeat Trust.

Each Music package contains a Introduction video, 6 x Music Therapy sessions, an Information leaflet, Lyrics, and a beautiful bag of children’s instruments.

Anne Walsh commented  “ We are absolutely delighted to be passing these new “Therapeutic Music Therapy packs” to the children and their families attached to Clark Clinic, it has been a pleasure working in partnership with the Children’s Heartbeat Trust over the last two years who have facilitated our work. Like many in the community and voluntary sector, we encountered difficulty in maintaining services during the Covid-19 pandemic particularly to individuals who were medically vulnerable. As a consequence we were forced to innovate and have developed this unique resource pack for parents to use with their children. Moving forward these new Music Therapy packs will now give us an added dimension to our service”. Anne also added that “the development of the packs would not have been possible without the full support of the LFT Charitable Trust who have worked in partnership with Every Day Harmony over the last couple of years and have been and continue to be a tremendous support for our work with children who are clinically vulnerable”.

In response Karena said that “We are very excited at Children’s Heartbeat Trust to receive the Music Therapy resource packs and we will use them as the focus of our Family Support plan in January, and we believe that this resource will be very beneficial to CHT families”.

Every Day Harmony welcomes cash boost

Every Day Harmony welcomes cash boost to help people with dementia through music

Every Day Harmony is celebrating this week after receiving a cash boost to continue/expand its musical services for people living with dementia. The money will enable us to deliver Music Therapy into five care homes across Northern Ireland for people with the condition, to support their wellbeing.

The grant was received from Paul & Nick Harvey Fund, which was set up specifically to directly support musical activities for people with dementia. Music for Dementia is a national campaign calling for music to be made accessible for everyone living with dementia. Music has a valuable role to play in enhancing quality of life for people living with the condition, and their carers. Research and lived experiences show that it can help reduce the often-distressing symptoms of dementia, such as agitation, apathy and anxiety.

Anne Walsh, CEO of Every Day Harmony, welcomed every one and thanked them for taking the time to join us as we celebrated the opening of our first “Harmony Hub”.  It was a privilege to see so many stakeholders and supporters of Every Day Harmony and we were especially pleased that the Bangor Ukes agreed to play for us as the event got under way.

We were delighted to have our guest of honour, Mr Gary Lightbody, officially launch our Harmony Hub, and spend over 2 hours chatting and having his picture taken with those in attendance.  We are very privileged that Gary has agreed to be an ambassador for Every Day Harmony.

The opening of the Hub gives us an opportunity to increase the provision of our service, and we believe it will enable us to provide at least 500 additional music therapy sessions every year.

Music is a very important part of all of our lives – At Every Day Harmony we see positive outcomes from music therapy every day and we hear some absolutely amazing stories. We were very pleased to share our work with those at the event and to hear from our Chairman, Mr John McCart, our Therapy Manager, Ms Julie Allen and from Emma, one of our service users.

Mr Tony Clarke from Clarke & Co provided a gourmet hamper which we balloted during refreshments at Toasted Café next door.
